Dena Yago’s work often takes the form of large-scale wall paintings, employing a well-known cast of characters pulled from film, advertising, and pop culture into allegorical fan fiction tableaus. The new special edition for Aspen Art Museum is inspired by her previous work C.H.I.R.P., in which birds toil away on Snow White’s instruction to “Whistle While You Work,” somewhere between automated cleaning bots and precarious gig workers from apps like Handy or Taskrabbit. Two birds wring out a protest t-shirt that takes on a life of its own in this new edition, featuring an acrostic poem/motto: “Champion Healing Itself, Reject Progress.” or “C.H.I.R.P.”.
Yago’s special edition for Aspen Art Museum is also available as a sweatshirt.
