Jacqueline Humphries: Nieman Marcus

Published on the occasion of the artist's solo exhibition held at Greene Naftali in 2022, Jacqueline Humphries: Neiman Marcus documents the first installation of Humphries’s monumental, 5-panel painting, in which the logo of the recently bankrupted department store emerges from speckled fields of paint. An original essay by John Kelsey analyzes the material complexity of the work’s sprawling, riven surface, and situates its pursuit of “the thrill and horror of scale” in response to the peculiar conditions of its moment.
